    Thweet Bar: Real Customer Reviews

Seongsu-dong, often simply called Seongsu, is a neighborhood located in Seoul, South Korea. It sits just across the Han River from Apgujeong in Gangnam District, easily accessible via the Seongsu Bridge. Geographically, Seongsu lies at the intersection of the Han River and Jungnangcheon Stream.

Up until the 1970s, Seongsu-dong was an industrial zone filled with small factories, cement plants, car repair shops, and particularly, shoemaking workshops. At its peak, the area was home to more than 500 handmade shoe factories, making it a symbol of South Korea’s handcrafted footwear industry. However, as the country’s manufacturing sector declined, Seongsu became a neglected and aging neighborhood.

Starting in the 2010s, Seongsu began to undergo rapid gentrification. Abandoned factories and warehouses were remodeled into stylish cafés, restaurants, and concept stores, breathing new life into the district. Today, Seongsu has transformed into one of Seoul’s trendiest hotspots, blending luxury apartments, innovative companies, and cutting-edge cultural spaces. It stands as a vibrant symbol of urban renewal and creativity in modern Korea.

Because of its abundance of old red-brick factories and warehouses, Seongsu has often been referred to as the “Brooklyn of Seoul.” In fact, Time Out magazine in the U.K. even ranked Seongsu as the 4th coolest neighborhood in the world.

Today, Seongsu is filled with stylish cafés, chic boutiques, and hidden culinary gems, making it a cultural hotspot for Korea’s MZ generation (Millennials and Gen Z). It has also become a major attraction for international tourists, many of whom now prefer exploring Seongsu over traditional areas like Myeongdong, Gangnam, or Hongdae.

The Thweet Bar in Seongsu, which I’m introducing today, is currently one of the most popular hotspots among MZs and has even been featured on television. In Episode 1 of the tvN reality variety show Sixth Sense: City Tour 2, which aired on October 30, 2025, hosts Yoo Jae-suk, Ji Suk-jin, Go Kyung-pyo, and MIMI (from the K-pop girl group OH MY GIRL) appeared alongside guest Lee Jun-young (former member of the K-pop boy group U-KISS and now an actor).

The episode was set in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, and the opening scene was filmed at Thweet, where all the cast members gathered to kick off their Seongsu city tour.

Thweet is located in Seongsu-dong, between Seongsu Station and Ttukseom Station on Seoul Subway Line 2, right next to the Seongsu Shoe Theme Park along Yeonmujang 3-gil. The shop is on the basement level (B1), and you can enter by walking down the stairs at the entrance. Upon arrival, follow the staff’s guidance to find an available seat first, then place your order at the counter. Please note that ID verification is required when ordering any alcoholic or liquor-infused menu items.

We visited Thweet in Seongsu as a walk-in, without a reservation. Even though it was just past 1 PM, the café was completely packed with customers. Luckily, a vacant table became available, and we were seated at a side table right next to the entrance.

We ordered a total of five items: one Makers Vanilla Ice Cream Set, one Orange Sorbet Ade, one Plain Financier, one Coffee Almond Financier, and one Black Cacao Ash Tart. After placing our order and paying at the counter, the staff personally served each item directly to our table.

First, the two types of financiers and the Ash Tart were served at our table, followed by the Orange Sorbet Ade and the Makers Vanilla Ice Cream Set. Each time the staff served a menu item, they kindly explained the best way to enjoy it, adding a thoughtful touch to the experience.

The Makers Vanilla Ice Cream Set features a scoop of vanilla gelato infused with Maker’s Mark bourbon whiskey and comes with a separate 20ml pour of Maker’s Mark. Maker’s Mark is a small-batch bourbon from Loretto, Kentucky, instantly recognizable by its iconic red wax-sealed bottle. Unlike traditional rye-based bourbons, it’s made with red winter wheat, giving it a smooth, soft finish with notes of vanilla, caramel, and toasted nuts.

While the original bourbon has 45% ABV, combining it with the frozen gelato lowers the alcohol content to about 3.8%, so there’s no strong alcohol burn or risk of getting tipsy—just a subtle hint of bourbon flavor enhancing the creamy sweetness of the vanilla gelato.

For whiskey lovers craving more, the set allows you to enjoy the full experience: take a spoonful of the gelato and sip the 20ml of Maker’s Mark, letting the flavors roll across your palate. The combination creates a delightfully sweet and nutty sensation, highlighting the harmony of bourbon and gelato.

The Orange Sorbet Ade delivers a burst of fresh citrus tang from the very first sip, filling the mouth with a refreshing, uplifting sensation. As the sorbet slowly melts into the drink, the balance of sweetness and acidity subtly evolves, maintaining a natural, vibrant flavor without any artificial sweetness. The drink remains refreshing and lively all the way down, leaving a crisp, cooling finish on the throat.

The Black Cacao Ash Tart is a playful dessert designed in the shape of an ashtray. It offers a harmonious blend of bitter cacao and gentle sweetness, while the tart shell is baked to a slightly firm texture, releasing a toasty, nutty aroma. Topping the tart are two meringue cigarettes, which at first glance may resemble chalk, but they melt delicately on the teeth, releasing a subtle, soda-like sweetness. This quirky, surprising flavor makes the tart fun and memorable, and pairing the meringue with the tart enhances the overall tasting experience.

The Financigar at Thweet is their most popular dessert, crafted in the shape of a cigar-shaped financier. Even when ordering just one, it’s elegantly presented on a cigar-specific ashtray plate, with the “ash” impressively rendered. The effect is created by finely crushed black cacao crumble mixed with silver pearl powder, mimicking real cigar ash—an artistic touch that perfectly complements Thweet’s concept. The dessert was masterfully created by a mysterious pâtissier nicknamed Athena, whose attention to detail elevates the dish to a work of art. Interestingly, this pâtissier appeared on Sixth Sense: City Tour 2, confirming their identity to curious fans.

Many visitors enjoy holding the Financigar as if smoking a real cigar for photos, just like Yoo Jae-suk playfully did on the show. While it may look whimsical at first glance, the financier’s texture is exceptional, and dipping it into the “ash” adds an extra layer of flavor, making the tasting experience even more delightful.

Seongsu’s Thweet may primarily serve whiskey, but it’s far from a dark or heavy bar. The space feels more like an adult dessert café, where you can enjoy whiskey-infused ice cream, Financigar, Ash Tart, and other unique treats rarely found in Korea. Even during the day, young couples come here for casual date vibes, savoring inventive desserts while sparking creative conversations on topics beyond their usual routines. If you’re visiting Seongsu, Thweet is a must-visit spot to experience playful, sophisticated flavors in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

    Recommended Menu Picks

For first-time visitors, these menu items are highly recommended:

    1. Financigar – Cigar-shaped financier dessert with crushed black cacao “ash,” a true artistic and Instagram-worthy creation.

    2. Black Cacao Ash Tart – Bitter cacao tart topped with playful meringue “cigarettes” for a fun, memorable flavor experience.

    3. Makers Vanilla Ice Cream(Whiskey-Infused Ice Cream) – Vanilla gelato with a subtle bourbon twist, served with a pour of Maker’s Mark.
