Rooftop lounges and bars — spaces built on hotel rooftops for guests to enjoy views and drinks — started trending in the early 2010s, with the Korean hotel industry embracing the trend around 2015. After the COVID-19 pandemic, rooftop venues became even more popular, as people sought open-air environments to relax and enjoy fresh air with city views. The Floating Bar on the 21st floor of L7 Myeongdong perfectly captures this modern, open-concept atmosphere. Covering 429㎡, it offers a remarkable sense of space and a clear, unobstructed view of Namsan Tower.

When you exit the elevator, the entire 21st floor is dedicated to the Floating Bar. Clean and well-maintained restrooms for both men and women are located right next to the elevator, and in front of the Floating Bar entrance, you can find information about ongoing promotions and menu prices. Originally, the Floating Bar only served light snacks to accompany drinks, but since 2019, it has continually renewed its menu to offer full dinner options with wine and cocktails. Please note that our visit took place before the most recent menu update.

We were seated on the outdoor terrace, where we started with a Korean dark beer, Mocha Stout (400ml / ₩19,000, 5.2% ABV).
For food, we ordered the Crab Rose Pasta (₩25,000) — made with Chinese blue crab, tomato cream sauce, and house-baked bread — and the Simple Burger (₩22,000), featuring a 180g Korean beef patty, cheddar cheese, tomato, arugula, red onion, onion sauce, Dijon mustard, and truffle French fries.
The staff’s exceptional service and professionalism impressed us so much that we also decided to order a bottle of Château de Fonbel 2013 (₩125,000).

The Simple Burger was outstanding — the thick, juicy patty burst with flavor, harmonizing beautifully with the creamy cheese and subtle butter notes. The bun was soft and lightly toasted, complementing the patty and sauce perfectly, while the fresh vegetables balanced the richness. The truffle fries were crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, with a gentle truffle aroma that elevated the overall flavor experience.
The Crab Rose Pasta delivered a rich yet delicate flavor — the creamy rose sauce melded seamlessly with the sweetness of fresh crab meat. The sauce had a perfect balance between the acidity of tomato and the smoothness of cream, while the al dente handmade noodles absorbed the sauce beautifully, offering a satisfying, flavorful bite.
The Château de Fonbel 2013, classified as a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru from Bordeaux, is produced by Alain Vauthier, owner of Château Ausone. The blend consists of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, and 3% Carmenère. This 2013 vintage offers plum and milky aromas, along with herbal and earthy notes. The tannins are refined and structured — initially firm but softening over time — and the balance of fruit and earthiness makes it a high-quality yet affordable choice.

As we finished our meal on the Floating Bar terrace, sipping the last drops of wine under the city lights, Namsan Tower glowed softly against the night sky. The reflection of wine in the glass shimmered like the city itself — calm, romantic, and timeless. In that serene moment amid the heart of Seoul, we felt as though time had gently paused, leaving us with a sense of quiet luxury, comfort, and poetic stillness.
Because I wanted to hold on to the lingering memories of my time at the Floating Bar, I purchased a bottle of Aperol Spritz (₩150,000) as a keepsake.
Interestingly, that very bottle is still sitting in my home wine cellar today, quietly preserving the warmth of that unforgettable evening.
