⚠️ Important Update for Travelers in South Korea: As of March 29, 2024, under the Act on the Promotion of Resource Saving and Recycling (Resource Recycling Act), hotels and accommodations with 50 rooms or more are no longer allowed to provide complimentary single-use items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and razors.
This means that no matter which hotel you stay at in South Korea, you must bring your own toothbrush, toothpaste, and razor, or purchase them as paid items at the hotel. Alternatively, these essentials can also be conveniently bought at nearby convenience stores or retail shops.
This update is crucial for anyone planning to travel in South Korea or stay at hotels, helping you avoid unexpected fees or inconveniences during your trip.
Don’t worry—essential in-room amenities such as disposable slippers, refillable shampoo, body wash, and body lotion, along with facial tissues, toilet paper, cotton swabs, cotton pads, and combs, are provided free of charge for all guests.
Lotte Resort Sokcho: Tips for Choosing Your Room, Getting Around, and Checking In
Lotte Resort Sokcho Room Booking Tips
For groups of five or more or for long-term stays, I recommend booking a condo unit, since condo rooms come with full kitchen facilities. However, keep in mind that part of the fun of a vacation is relaxation—not having one person stuck cooking, washing dishes, and cleaning up afterward. For groups of four or fewer who want a truly comfortable stay, the hotel wing is the better choice. Hotel rooms offer superior beds and bedding compared to condos.
Among hotel rooms, the top recommendations are the Superior Suite, Deluxe Suite, Premier View Suite, and Presidential Suite. The Deluxe Suite and Presidential Suite feature private terraces with a plunge pool and sunbeds, perfect for a luxurious vacation vibe. The Superior Suite, Premier View Suite, and Presidential Suite are corner suites, offering panoramic ocean views—ideal for relaxing in bed while watching the sunrise or sunset.
Corner suites are especially popular with couples. If you’re looking for a romantic or special stay, book a corner suite. Among these, the Superior Suite offers the best value, making it my top recommendation for most travelers.
How to Get to Lotte Resort Sokcho
We visited Lotte Resort Sokcho by car. Driving nonstop from Seoul’s Gangnam district to Sokcho takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes, but with a quick stop at a rest area for refreshments and refueling, our journey took roughly 3 hours.
If you’re driving to the resort, park in the underground garage (EV charging stations are on B3). Even if you arrive early and park before check-in, free parking is granted once you complete the parking registration at the front desk. For rooms with a standard occupancy of 4 or more, up to 2 vehicles can park for free per room.
For those who prefer public transportation, Lotte Resort Sokcho is conveniently close to Sokcho Express Bus Terminal. From Seoul’s Gangnam Express Bus Terminal, the bus ride to Sokcho takes around 2 hours and 20 minutes. From the terminal, a taxi ride to the resort’s main entrance takes about 5 minutes, costing roughly ₩5,000.
Because the resort is situated on a hillside, we recommend using a taxi if you have heavy luggage, even if arriving by bus.
Lotte Resort Sokcho Check-In Tips
Lotte Resort Sokcho has 392 rooms and attracts many families with four or more members, so check-in lines can get long. To avoid waiting, it’s recommended to arrive before the official 3:00 PM check-in time and pick up a queue ticket in advance.
Check-in can be done either face-to-face at the front desk or via the self-service kiosk. Unless a face-to-face check-in is necessary, using the self-check-in kiosk is faster and more convenient.
Lotte Resort Sokcho: Tips for Reaching Your Assigned Room
After completing check-in, you must take the elevator to reach your assigned room. If you have a lot of luggage, it’s highly recommended to use the luggage carts available along the edges of the lobby near the hotel entrance. Loading multiple suitcases and bags onto a cart makes navigating the long corridors much easier.
Lotte Resort Sokcho houses both Hotel Wing and Condo Wing rooms within the same building. Hotel Wing rooms are numbered with an “H” prefix (e.g., H 819), while Condo Wing rooms use a “C” prefix (e.g., C 674). Corridors can be very long, so pay close attention to the room numbers to avoid unnecessary walking.
Basic Information About the Superior Suite
The Superior Suite at Lotte Resort Sokcho is a corner suite. In the Hotel Wing, each floor has two corner units, so there are two Superior Suites per floor—typically Room 11 and Room 26. Across floors 3 through 8, there are a total of 12 Superior Suites.
Because the corners face different directions, the views vary:
• Room 11 line: North-facing Sokcho Beach view + East-facing East Sea view.
• Room 26 line: South-facing Dae-po Port view toward Cassia Sokcho Hotel & Resort + East-facing East Sea view.
Most guests prefer the Room 11 line because it offers a combination of the beach, ocean, and the lit-up Sokcho cityscape at night. To secure a Room 11 line suite, it’s essential to request it at the front desk during check-in. Note that self check-in via kiosk does not allow you to choose a specific view.

We arrived in Sokcho early in the morning and spent some time visiting local attractions like Naksansa Temple, Oeongchi Breakwater, and Sokcho Beach. Afterward, we grabbed a waiting number at the resort and then headed back to Dae-po Port for a delicious scallop lunch before returning to the hotel to wait for check-in. Thanks to our early waiting number, we were able to complete check-in quickly.

We were assigned room H 811. On the 8th floor, hotel rooms are numbered H 801 to H 835, while condo units range from C 841 to C 886. Lotte Resort Sokcho was a filming location for the popular 2018 tvN drama Encounter, and this very hallway was where the lead character, played by Song Hye-kyo, helped Park Bo-gum tie his tie. As fans of the drama, simply walking down the same hallway we had seen on TV was thrilling and exciting. Being a corner room, Superior Suite H 811 is located at the end of the hallway, so it’s a bit of a walk from the elevator.

Upon opening the room door, you’ll see a hallway leading straight into the living room. To the right are the shoe closet and guest bathroom, and to the left is the door to Bed Room 2. The Primary Bedroom is located at the far end, past the living room.
Inside the shoe closet, you’ll find a shoehorn, fire extinguisher, clothes drying rack, dust masks, and four pairs of disposable slippers. Be sure to change into the provided slippers before stepping further inside.

Let’s start with Bed Room 2, located closest to the entrance. This compact bedroom features one double bed, a nightstand, a small wardrobe, and a luggage rack. Opening the window next to the bed leads directly to the terrace. The room provides ample space for two adults to sleep comfortably and rest.

The living area is divided into a hallway connecting the entrance and bathrooms, the bathrooms themselves, a minibar section, and a seating area with a sofa. This Superior Suite has two bathrooms: one is connected to the Primary Bedroom, and the other—situated opposite Bed Room 2—is a guest bathroom conveniently accessible from the living area.
The guest bathroom features a single vanity, with a bidet-equipped toilet to the right and a shower stall to the left. Note that this bathroom does not have a bathtub or hairdryer. The vanity is stocked with reusable hand wash, body lotion, and towels, while the shower stall provides reusable shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and a bath sponge.
Originally, amenities were from the L’Occitane Verveine & Agrumes line, but as of April 2025, they have been replaced by EMISSARY.73, Lotte Hotels & Resorts’ private-label brand launched in 1973, reflecting their commitment to elegance and hospitality. EMISSARY.73 products are noted for their sophisticated fragrance—a blend of fresh greenery and blossoming roses—and premium formulations.
Adjacent to the bathroom is a small minibar area, equipped with a Nespresso capsule coffee machine, coffee capsules, a mini refrigerator, electric kettle, mini ice bucket, wine opener, green tea bags, teaspoons, paper cups, and bottled water. For safety reasons, glassware has been replaced with paper cups. All items in the minibar are complimentary, though any future addition of paid products will be clearly labeled with a menu.
The living room floor is carpeted, and the space is furnished with a two-seater sofa, a stool, a coffee table, a side table, and a standing lamp. A TV is mounted on the wall, accompanied by a console table. Sliding doors behind the sofa open to the terrace. Previously, the Primary Bedroom also had a TV, but currently, the living room is the main entertainment area, making it ideal for gathering, media viewing, and conversation.

The Primary Bedroom is divided into a sleeping area and a bathroom area. The bedroom is furnished with one double bed, two nightstands, two standing lamps, a telephone, a smartphone wireless charger, a box of tissues, a wardrobe, a luggage rack, a rattan chair, and a side table. Inside the wardrobe, you’ll find hangers, two bathrobes, a mini safe, a laundry bag, and an insect repellent spray.
The bathroom features a large vanity with a bidet-equipped toilet to the right and a spacious shower stall to the left. The vanity is stocked with reusable hand wash, body lotion, towels, and a hairdryer. The hairdryer is a UNIX UN-A7320P, equipped with a BLDC motor for low-noise operation and lightweight design. It consumes 1,650W of power and weighs approximately 357g. Its Baby Mode, Pet Mode, and Scalp Care Mode make it versatile for different needs.
Inside the shower stall, there is a window with a bathtub positioned beneath it. The bathtub is large enough for two adults to enjoy a half-body soak simultaneously, offering a romantic way to enjoy the ocean view with a partner. The shower stall is also stocked with reusable EMISSARY.73 amenities: shampoo, hair conditioner, body wash, and a bath sponge.

In the past, the Primary Bedroom had a TV positioned at the foot of the bed, but it has since been removed. This change allows for an unobstructed panoramic ocean view from the bed. However, it also means you cannot comfortably watch TV while lying in bed. If you want to watch TV, you must go to the living room, where the only TV in the suite is located.

You can step out onto the terrace by opening the bedroom’s sliding glass door. From the terrace, you can enjoy a north-facing view of Sokcho Beach and an east-facing ocean view. The terrace also provides access to the living room. Note that Bedroom 2 does not have direct terrace access.
Lotte Resort Sokcho: Superior Suite - Special Benefits
Infinity Pool (B1)
Lotte Resort Sokcho features a large-scale aquatic theme park with two main areas: an outdoor swimming zone called the Infinity Pool and a full-fledged Waterpark packed with attractions.
The Waterpark is a paid facility, granting access to its three zones: Indoor, Outdoor, and the Korean-style Sauna (Jjimjilbang).
• Indoor Zone: Includes a moving wave pool up to 1.8 m deep, a multi-play pool, kids’ pool, wade pool, a 105 m-long lazy river along the perimeter, and the “Rocket Blaster” slide, a high-pressure water slide offering a rollercoaster-like thrill.
• Outdoor Zone: Features a spa with an open-air hot spring feel, kids’ pool, Infinity wade pool, Infinity Pool 1 & 2, Cross Activity Pool for children, body slides, ball slides, and a dock sauna.
• Jjimjilbang (Sauna): A traditional Korean sauna where visitors can wear light clothing. It offers five themed sauna experiences, making it particularly popular among guests.
This combination of pools, slides, and sauna options makes Lotte Resort Sokcho ideal for families seeking both fun and relaxation.

The Infinity Pool area at Lotte Resort Sokcho is complimentary for all resort guests, based on the occupancy of their room. (Additional guests beyond the room’s standard occupancy are subject to extra charges.)
Simply put, the Infinity Pool is the resort’s outdoor swimming facility. It includes four main sections: the Aqua Pool, the Infinity Pool, a Warm-Up Room, and a Poolside Bar. Guests—whether couples or families—can enjoy water activities while taking in panoramic ocean views.
Because the Infinity Pool is heated, it remains open through early winter; however, for guest safety, the facility is closed during the peak winter months from late December to late February.
For detailed information about Infinity Pool usage, please refer to the link below.
Members Lounge (2F)
The Members Lounge is located on the 2nd floor of Lotte Resort Sokcho and is an exclusive space for guests staying in Hotel Wing Superior Suites or higher. Guests can enjoy complimentary coffee from the in-lounge coffee machine and relax in comfortable seating while listening to LP records. The lounge offers such high-quality coffee and ambiance that you might not even need to visit a café. Since the number of Hotel Wing Suites is limited, the lounge is rarely crowded, providing a very relaxed environment. Make sure to visit as often as possible before check-out.

Walking up the stairs on Bada Hyanggi-ro |
Oeongchi in Daepo-dong, Sokcho, is a small fishing village. Its name comes from its location just outside “Ongchi-san” (a small hill where Lotte Resort Sokcho now stands); the Chinese character 외 (外) means “outside,” referring to the hill’s outer side. In the distant past, before road development, anyone traveling from Daepo Port to Sokcho city had to pass over the Ongchi-san hill road.
Due to historical military incidents—such as the 1968 infiltration of 120 armed North Korean soldiers into the Uljin–Samcheok area and the 1996 submarine infiltration of 26 North Korean soldiers near Gangneung—the Oeongchi area’s coastline was entirely fenced off as a military operation zone, with civilians strictly prohibited from entering.
In 1989, Lotte Construction (part of Lotte Group) purchased the Ongchi-san hill area from Sokcho city with plans to build a resort and walking trails. However, progress was delayed due to the relocation of existing military facilities on the hill. The project was finally completed in 2018 after the South Korean government carried out extensive removal of military coastal fences along the East Sea, allowing Lotte Resort Sokcho to open. Simultaneously, a 1.74 km coastal walkway was built around Ongchi-san, featuring two trails: Badahyang-giro (“Sea Scent Trail”) and Deulkkot-hyang-giro (“Wildflower Scent Trail”).
The 2018 tvN drama Encounter starring Park Bo-gum and Song Hye-kyo used these scenic coastal trails as a backdrop, boosting the area’s popularity across Korea, Japan, China, and Southeast Asia.
Both trails are short—about 20–30 minutes to walk—and have gentle slopes, making them accessible to people of all ages. They are not open 24 hours; the opening hours are as follows:
• April–September: 6:00 AM – 7:30 PM
• October–March: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Atmosphere of R.9PUP at Lotte Resort Sokcho

| Atmosphere of R.9PUP at Lotte Resort Sokcho |
R.9PUP is a bar located on the 9th-floor rooftop of the condo wing at Lotte Resort Sokcho. Inside, you can enjoy LP records played through high-end speakers, and outside, you can take in open, unobstructed views of Sokcho Beach and the ocean while feeling the refreshing sea breeze as you enjoy good food and drinks.
R.9PUP offers easy, crowd-pleasing options like burgers, chicken, and pizza, as well as pasta, steak, and tteokbokki—popular among both Korean and international guests—so the menu is very approachable. The selection of quality craft beers and highballs also makes it fun to try different drinks. Without exaggeration, there is no bar in the Sokcho area with a setting as impressive as this. It’s an enjoyable, feel-good spot whether you visit with family, friends, a partner, or colleagues.
Since I spent most of my time in the room on a date with my girlfriend, I visited R.9PUP in the afternoon. Daytime hours are much quieter, so I was able to enjoy a much more relaxed experience.
What should you eat when visiting Sokcho?
Sokcho is one of the more affluent areas in Gangwon Province, and development is actively underway, giving the city a growing, Busan-like vibe. Because of this, you’ll find plenty of trendy cafés and well-known franchise restaurants similar to those in Seoul.
When Koreans travel to the Gangwon region, they typically eat dishes like buckwheat noodles (makguksu), grilled dried pollock (hwangtae-gui), tofu dishes, and grilled deodeok. Sokcho is also a port city with multiple harbors, so grilled fish, steamed fish dishes, spicy fish stews, sashimi, and red snow crab dishes are all local specialties. Foreign visitors often head to the seafood markets. Daepo Harbor has the largest fish market, while Sokcho Central Market is about a 10-minute drive from Lotte Resort Sokcho. (Walking from the resort to Sokcho Central Market takes over an hour—always use a car!) The central market is especially famous for its Korean-style fried chicken, dakgangjeong.
If you want an easy dining option inside Lotte Resort Sokcho, the first-floor seafood buffet “Makino Chaya” is the most convenient choice. It’s operated directly by Lotte, so the ingredients are carefully sourced and the dishes are high quality. On the B1 level, you’ll also find “The Gau,” a restaurant specializing in grilled meats. Since B1 also has a convenience store, fast-food options, and cafés, it’s convenient for simple meals.

Since you’re at the seaside, sashimi is a must. My girlfriend loves sashimi, so we went to Daepo Harbor and had fresh raw fish and spicy fish stew for dinner. Although Oeongchi Harbor is closer, Daepo Harbor is larger and has far more sashimi restaurants. It’s about a 15-minute walk from Lotte Resort Sokcho. We had quite a bit to drink, so our total bill for two came to around 150,000 KRW.

After returning to our room, we continued drinking. We enjoyed champagne while soaking in the bathtub, and later that night we drank wine while watching TV. We overslept and missed breakfast, so we picked up burger sets from Lotteria on the B1 level and ate them in the room. The freshly cooked burgers and fries were excellent. We also paid an additional fee for late checkout, so after our simple meal, we went back to sleep and checked out later in the afternoon.

💡 Pro Tips for Staying at Lotte Resort Sokcho
1. Daily Housekeeping Rules You Need to Know
• For 2-night stays, housekeeping includes amenity refills and trash removal only.
• For 3 nights or more, you get full housekeeping with daily linen changes.
• This does not mean “one full cleaning every three nights”—a reservation of **3+ nights guarantees full cleaning every day for both the Hotel Wing and Condo Wing.
• Travelers who expect hotel-level daily service should keep this in mind when choosing room types.
2. Condo Wing Has Extra Responsibilities
• Condo guests must wash all dishes, clean the sink, and organize all kitchenware before checkout.
• All trash must be sorted and taken to the recycling area, located near Room 61 on each floor.
• Many international travelers find this surprising because you pay resort-level prices but still must handle dishwashing and waste sorting yourself.
3. Why the Hotel Wing Is the Better Choice
• If you want a true hotel experience—full cleaning, no dishwashing, no trash sorting—the Hotel Wing is the far more convenient option.
• Hotel guests simply pack and check out; staff handles everything else.
• For most travelers, especially first-time visitors to Sokcho, the Hotel Wing offers better comfort, less hassle, and a smoother stay.
