Lotte City Hotels: Lifestyle Brand Overview

Lotte City Hotels is the select-service brand (SSB) of Lotte Hotels & Resorts, the hospitality division of Hotel LOTTE (004990.KS ₩29,800) — a subsidiary of Lotte Group, one of South Korea’s top ten conglomerates.

The Lotte City Hotels brand is characterized by its strategic locations in major business and transportation hubs, providing excellent access to corporate districts, airports, and key landmarks. The hotels feature modern and comfortable rooms, essential amenities such as coin laundry facilities, fitness centers, business centers, and meeting rooms, as well as all-day dining restaurants.

Unlike full-service 5-star hotels that require higher room rates, Lotte City Hotels, as a true select-service brand, deliver reliable and streamlined hospitality at competitive prices—an ideal choice for both business and independent travelers seeking comfort without unnecessary luxury.

The chain operates mainly 3-star and 4-star properties. While most locations do not include swimming pools or saunas, a select few offer these facilities depending on the property.

    Select-Service Model Explained

Lotte City Hotels is a select-service hotel brand. A select-service model is designed for travelers who don’t necessarily need the full range of luxury hotel amenities but still value quality, comfort, and convenience. It allows guests to enjoy only the essential services they truly need — all at a reasonable cost.

For hotel operators, this model offers efficiency by reducing unnecessary high-end services and minimizing staffing and facility costs, while focusing on core offerings. For guests, it provides excellent value for money, offering essential amenities such as free bottled water, complimentary Wi-Fi, parking, and fitness centers — creating a smart balance between affordability and modern comfort.

    Competitors in the Select-Service Segment

Major global competitors in the select-service hotel segment include Four Points by Sheraton, Courtyard, Fairfield, Moxy, Protea Hotel, Aloft, and AC Hotel under Marriott (MAR $291.16); Hampton by Hilton (HLT $273.32); Hyatt Place by Hyatt (H $155.34); and Holiday Inn Express by IHG (IHG $130.18). In South Korea, similar select-service brands include Shilla Stay by Hotel Shilla (008770.KS ₩43,400) and Nine Tree by Parnas Hotel (499790.KS ₩40,650).

Lotte City Hotel Mapo $112.39 $204.95

Lotte City Hotel Ulsan $52.89 $119.01
Lotte City Hotel Myeongdong $125.62 $224.79

When comparing room rates across locations, Lotte City Hotels generally maintain a moderate and competitive price range. Among the 3-star properties, Lotte City Hotel Ulsan tends to offer the lowest rates, while among the 4-star hotels, Lotte City Hotel Jeju is the most affordable—likely due to reduced regional travel demand during the winter off-season. In Seoul, Lotte City Hotel Guro is currently the most budget-friendly option.

From personal experience, I’ve stayed at several locations: Lotte City Hotel Mapo and Lotte City Hotel Myeongdong (for dates with my girlfriend), Lotte City Hotel Jeju (a family trip with my mother), Lotte City Hotel Ulsan (for a friend’s wedding and reception), and most recently Lotte City Hotel Guro (again for a date) during the past summer.

Based on these stays, Lotte City Hotels offer excellent comfort for their price range, with notably clean bedding and mattresses. However, the interior design feels somewhat dated, and the dining venues are rather ordinary, lacking a distinctive culinary experience. Still, the combination of reasonable pricing, clean and quiet rooms, and convenient access to public transportation makes Lotte City Hotels a solid and reliable choice for both business and leisure travelers.
