Twisted Taco is a Tex-Mex restaurant chain founded in 2002 by Ray Sieradzki and Paul Gibbs, who opened their first full-service location in Midtown Atlanta. Now in its 24th year of operation, the brand offers a broad menu featuring more than twenty taco varieties, house-made salsa, fresh guacamole, and signature margaritas.
After launching in Midtown, Twisted Taco expanded across Georgia and now operates locations inside Georgia State University, Georgia Tech, Emory University, Spelman College, and the Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Medical Center. Its primary customer base consists of students, university faculty and staff, and hospital employees—so most campus locations remain closed during school breaks.
The Twisted Taco location I’m introducing today at Georgia State University (GSU) is a hidden gem that even locals often miss, as it has not yet been listed on Google Maps. Tucked on the side of the Academic Programs Support building on the first floor, this spot offers a surprisingly clean, bright, and modern dining environment. Among the Twisted Taco locations at Georgia Tech, Emory, and Spelman, the GSU branch is, in my experience, the most polished and well-maintained. It features a combined 70 seats across indoor and outdoor areas, along with two password-protected restrooms inside the dining space.
Parking is available at the same building. Visitors should select the “75 Piedmont Upper Lot” and pay via the ParkMobile app by entering their license plate and zone number—details best double-checked on-site for accuracy.

Tacos at the Twisted Taco location inside Georgia State University generally range from $4.39 to $14.49, with prices varying slightly depending on add-on sauces or customizations. At first glance, the menu may not seem particularly budget-friendly—especially considering today’s exchange rates, which make dining out increasingly challenging for international students and young workers on a tight budget.
However, here’s the part everyone loves: every Tuesday, all tacos are priced at just $2.99 all day long. Based on the current exchange rate at the time of writing, that comes to approximately 4,417 KRW per taco. If you’re planning a visit, Tuesday is unquestionably the best day to go, offering an excellent opportunity to enjoy quality tacos at an unbeatable price.

Earlier yesterday, we visited the Twisted Taco location at Georgia State University. There were four of us, and we grabbed a four-top table inside the restaurant. Winter in Atlanta is usually milder than in Korea, but the temperature has dropped a bit over the past few days, and it’s started to feel chilly.

yesterday happened to be Tuesday, so every taco was just $2.99. We ordered one Boom Boom Shrimp taco, one The Hills Chicken taco, one Tomstone Chicken taco, one Boom Boom Chicken taco, one Sierra Madre taco, one Buffalo Shrimp taco, and two Birria tacos—eight tacos total, giving each of us two. All of this came out to only $23.92. Since we saved quite a bit thanks to the discount, we decided to treat ourselves and added four bottles of Jarritos, a refreshing fruit-flavored soda. At checkout, an additional 8.9% tax is applied, but you don’t need to tip at Twisted Taco.

While we were waiting for our tacos, we toasted with our Jarritos and made small talk. One of my friends mentioned she’s been having issues with her dorm roommate lately. Apparently, the roommate stays up late at night making noise, even disturbing the person in the next room. It’s hard to understand why someone would be so inconsiderate, regardless of country or age.

Here’s how I would describe the flavor profile of each taco we ordered at the Twisted Taco Georgia State University location:
Boom Boom Shrimp Taco delivers a classic street-taco richness with crispy battered shrimp and tender meat inside, all coated in a sweet-spicy Boom Boom sauce. Fresh lettuce and tomatoes brighten it up, while the heat from the sauce kicks in fast and sharp.
The Hills Chicken Taco features grilled chicken that’s savory and clean in flavor, topped with warm melted queso, salsa, and fresh lettuce. It has a well-balanced, easygoing taste that feels like the textbook version of a classic Tex-Mex chicken taco.
Tombstone Chicken Taco combines flame-grilled chicken with pico de gallo and a spicy chipotle-ranch dressing, creating a smoky undertone and moderate heat. The flavor leans more modern Tex-Mex than traditional Mexican, with a bold, spicy finish.
Boom Boom Chicken Taco comes with crispy fried chicken pieces generously coated in Boom Boom sauce, offering a sweet-spicy punch. Lettuce and pico de gallo keep it from feeling heavy, resulting in a flavorful, addictive combination.
Sierra Madre Taco layers crispy chicken, melted cheese, lettuce, and jalapeño mayo, delivering a salty, mildly spicy profile. The homemade-style salsa adds a bright acidity, creating a rich, multi-layered Tex-Mex flavor.
Buffalo Shrimp Taco stands out with crunchy shrimp drenched in tangy Buffalo sauce. The buttery, spicy Buffalo heat pairs with lettuce and tomatoes for a distinctly American Buffalo-style taco that’s bold and stimulating.
Birria Taco is packed with deeply seasoned birria beef, melted cheese, cilantro, and onions, resulting in a rich, juicy, and aromatic bite. Compared to the other tacos, its traditional birria flavor is fuller, heavier, and intensely satisfying.

There’s a small UNO-style game setup on one side of the restaurant—a fun nod to Atlanta being the home of Coca-Cola, since it’s a coin-toss board game branded with Coke imagery. My friends, who just turned twenty, couldn’t resist it. Seeing games like this always pulls them right back into their teenage memories.
On a side note, have you seen Kong Kong Pang Pang, the nine-episode tvN travel variety show that aired from October 17 to December 12, 2025? It’s the spinoff of You Reap What You Sow. In the Mexico segment, D.O. (Do Kyung-soo of EXO) spent the entire trip obsessed with finding local tacos. Watching him hunt down taco after taco made me genuinely curious about the flavor of real Mexican street tacos. Now that I’ve finally tried Tex-Mex-style tacos here, my expectations for authentic Mexican tacos are even higher.
The Twisted Taco location at Georgia State University sits right in the heart of the GSU campus, making it extremely convenient between classes. It operates in an express format, serving Tex-Mex tacos, burritos, and nachos quickly at student-friendly prices, with plenty of customization options. Its fast service, flavorful salsas, and margaritas have made it a favorite among GSU students. The space is clean, making it a refreshing alternative to the library or dorms when meeting friends for a meal or a quick snack.
If you’re searching for a budget-friendly taco spot in Atlanta, this place should be on your list. This is a fully independent, self-paid visit and an honest review—100% written by a real person.
